Excluding the trucks and vehicles with fixed quarter glass - what was the last passenger car sold in the U.S. with openable quarter glass?
I know they were an option of Yugos which were available until 1992 here. But were there any cars in 1993 or beyond that still had them?

1996 Ford Escort three-door still had them.

these had really good rear-window defrosters you know...
they we’re really good, because Yugo wanted your hands to stay warm when you're pushing it to start it in the winter

They were optional on the ‘89-’95 Toyota Pickup.
EDIT: I thought you meant the front vent window, not the rear quarter glass. Toyota comes through again, 2004 Tacoma:

I just found out that 2 dr E30s had optional pop out REAR windows. I think until the end of the run (92/93?)

ended in ‘89, e36 coupes had them, but they were power at that point, and i think e46 coupes had them as well.

My friend’s e36 has tilt-out rear glass

I was talking about the front vent, commonly refered to as a quarter light, quarter glass, vent window, etc.

Ahh, so I was right the first time. 1995 Toyota Pickup was the last NO, wait! 1997 Ford F250 & F350. Although the ‘97 F150 was all-new, the old bodystyle (with opening front door vent windows) carried over.

I’m not sure if the Yugo offered those windows through the entire run. But if not, I think the last cars available in America with opening front wing windows are the ‘91 Ford LTD Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis.

I think you’re right, as they do not appear on any of the GV+ models (only ones sold in 91/92, excepting the cabrio) I could find pictures of. I think they had only been an option on the GV.

According to Wikipedia,
the last Yugos with opening 1/4 windows were from 1990. They were dropped for ‘91.
So that’d make the Ford and Mercury the last in America.

Hmmm good to know. I am going on the hunt at the local junkyards for some, looks easy to retrofit. Mine doesn’t have AC which is fine by me...when you have rear windows to put down. I haven’t been driving it much lately because of the 100* summer

Who wants to start a whitehouse petition to make them mandatory on all cars sold in the U.S.?

1995 Jeep YJ Wrangler with full doors.

I think we could do it, if we pitch it in economic terms. Those things can keep you cool in some warm weather, so how much gas would we save if we had them but didn’t want to pay?
Nevermind - before people will choose a lesser option, they’ll need more of a kick than simple dollars sense.

Wiki is wong. All 1986 Yugos had opening vent windows. They were fixed in 1987, and ‘91 had one-piece glass.

Oh front quarter glass, not rear. got it.

I know my ‘96 Chevy van had them. It had the accompanying vent door for the feet. Open both and it’s just like air conditioning!

Damn I miss TVWs. Last vehicle I had with them was an ‘88 Toyota pickup.
